Zone outages / Invisible barriers...again
Posted on Thursday, February 06 @ 11:39:18 PST by kadams

Asheron's Call 2 News Apparently residents of Dereth are experiencing the presence of "invisible walls" preventing them from entering certain zones. Turbine is investigating this problem, but...

...doesn't this sound awfully familiar?

My AC2 friends will know what I mean. The weekend of the Slammer virus, before it was announced, we encountered invisible "barriers" that prevented us from entering several zones. We were on our way to complete a vault at the time and, after several attempts to get where we needed to be, we gave up.

We also encountered portals that wouldn't work during that same session: entire rings of them. Our trip across Dereth was frustrating and ultimately fruitless. Several of us reported the problems.

Turbine and Microsoft later announced that all of the woes we had experienced were the result of the evil Slammer virus. They claimed all of their servers were "fully patched and up to date" before the virus struck yet, somehow, they were far more severely impacted than any other MMOG that weekend.

And here we are, a couple of weeks later, and the problem is recurring. So, since obviously it can't be a problem with their servers (Microsoft and Turbine said so), we have to assume that there is another Slammer virus loose!

Or, maybe we should assume that Microsoft and Turbine were blowing hot air that weekend and have no clue what was going on, rebooted the servers, crossed their fingers, and hoped that it wouldn't happen again.

Call me radical, but I think the latter possibility is more likely.
